  1. Yeah, electroshock in the "old days" has damaged lives, permanently.

    Some psychiatric doctors experimented on patients, like guinea pigs.

    Anecdotally, I've seen the short-term memory shot in survivors of such electroshock. How they work, when they have trouble carrying a conversation, baffles the mind. And they have trouble learning new things, since, again, their short term memory is strongly involved with learning. Hard to learn a new trade that way...

    And of course, hallucinations are a challenge to daily functioning too.
