Even The Law Is Not Above The Lure of Crack

The veteran in my Inglewood homeless veterans shelter who was a Longbeach police officer working undercover for the county sheriff's department got kicked out of here yesterday.

Bad drug test. Bad, bad drug test. Tested positive. What a schmuck. Now THERE'S a long fall from grace, eh? From U.S. military veteran to police officer to a crackhead who can't even stay clean in a sober living shelter for more than a month.

We've got all kinds in here. Yesterday I met a homeless veteran who was an attorney before he got cracked up on coke. He started stealing cases from his firm to support his habit and got busted.

He's going to get his old job back, though. He agreed to pay back the $12,000 he stole in client fees and will submit himself to a weekly drug test for as long as he works for them. Next time I need an attorney, I'm going to ask to see his rap sheet first. I don't want just any whacked out crackhead handling my legal affairs.
