Augean stables: a condition or place marked by great accumulation of filth or corruption. Where Augean stables are involved, look for a formidable cleanup job, often distasteful.
Okay, let’s just take an objective look at this Augean stable of a homeless veterans shelter I’m living in, see if we see a pattern.
First, all the Resident Assistants are black. All the case managers are black. All the job developers are black. All the cooking staff is black. All the computer room staff are black. All the property management staff is black. Not one white or brown or yellow among the whole bunch.
It’s because L.A. Vets management realizes that whites are not very good at mismanaging things, right?
Oh, wait. In all of the bloated staff, there ARE three whites, but that’s only because those whites are on the Board of Directors and don’t have to have any sort of direct contact with the inmates . . . uh, veterans.
Smell anything fishy yet? But wait, there’s more.
When a veteran first comes in to L.A. Vets, he is assigned a bed according to race. What, you ask. How can that be?
Well, all newcomers get assigned into a three-man room. Choices there are the much-hated top bunk, which I stayed in about half of my 90-day stint, the bottom bunk and a single bed. Whites always get the top bunk. Blacks are not assigned a top bunk unless there is absolutely nothing else because it is a well known fact by L.A. Vets management that blacks suffer from a fear of heights.
After we do our community K.P. and finish the bullshit classes from teachers who speak only ebonics, we are expected to dress up in suit and tie for job searches. Whites get driven to the back door of a donated clothes warehouse for their clothes (I got $16 worth, a natty lime green coat that didn’t fit and a few 1960 ties and I got harranged for weeks by staff for spending too much of 'their' corporation’s money), but blacks get handed a few hundred dollars and taken shopping to JC Penny or FUBU because it is a well known fact that blacks are more clothes conscious and hyper sensitive to used clothes.
Smell the fish now?
All this is penny ante stuff. The list goes on and on. Where the really hurtful discrimination goes on here every day is in the job referrals from the staff. Blacks get all the job referrals to V.A. jobs and V.A. job bootstrap programs. Try and be white and get in to one of those. Go ahead, waste your time. Ain’t happening.
Whites get directed to physically demanding $7 an hour security guard or low level construction jobs with no benefits and blacks get recommended for $12 an hour cushy, coffee break-laden VA “attendant” jobs with all sorts of government benefits. That’s just the way it is here.
It’s a weird kind of racism coming from the L.A. Vets staff because what you have all these blacks saying is that blacks are dumber, more affected by drugs, less able to help themselves than other races so they have to be given more advantages over those other races to be fair.
You wanna be fair, don't you? Equal treatment of veterans regardless of their skin color, you say?
What are you? A racist?
