Point Man

Point Man: In politics or any arena of controversy, the person who is in the forefront, originally a military term for a soldier who goes ahead of a patrol, a dangerous position, where a man is most likely to get shot.

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
---Dylan Thomas

Slouching Towards Bethlehem: The slow but inexorable approach of something evil that will inevitably overwhelm what is good.

And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,

Slouches toward Bethlehem to be born?
---William Butler Yeats, The Second Coming

My Benched Players bench buddy Gordon, my point man in the battle of Right Thinking Veterans against The L.A. Vets Shitifyers, is in a little trouble here. His 90 days are up and he hasn’t got a job. He’s eligible to be kicked out into the street and since he’s white, he probably WILL be tossed out.

Black vets are regularly given extentions because, I guess it’s thought by the black administrators, it’s harder for a black man to get a job.

(The only reason I’m still here is because I outsmarted Job Development administrator Michael Hudspeth’s attempts to sabotage me, which Gordon failed to do, thus, I guess, making me actually smarter than Gordon.)

But God bless him, Gordon is not about to go gentle into that good night, nor will he slouch towards the street or towards the Bethlehem homeless shelter. Hudspeth sabotaged Gordon and Gordon’s got a little something for Hudspeth, in the form of the following threat to the L.A. Vets corporation:

November 20, 200X

Dear Mr. XXXXXX:

I would like to explain my position as it relates to the US VETERANS INITIATIVE as it applies to my extension of 90 days to include the guard training.

As you are aware we discussed this matter together on Wednesday, November 19, 200X in particular and in conference with you and I, Mr. Hudspeth and I believe VIP client Mr. Hamamoto on Friday November 14, 200X

As we agreed on these dates, my continuation in the Veterans In Progress program has been a result of errors and delays not of my own making. The solution to these issues would come in time that would be afforded me.

The following people have EXPRESSLY stated that at no time would I risk displacement due to the delays in obtaining employment as a guard due to the issues present.

1. Jerry Ford Wednesday, November 19, 200X
2. Katharine Gibbs Tuesday, November 18, 200X
3. Michael Hudspeth Monday, November 17, 200X

I have acted in good faith and confidence upon these statements and displacement at this

time, would result in a violation of this trust, with malicious intent by any party who advocates my displacement.

Additionally, as this is a federally funded facility, certain regulations and precedents have been established to isolate (through discovery) and correct disparities in implied contracts and harassment of clients due to their grievances.

DOL JTPA funds now being retooled through local Work Force Development Boards (block granted through states to local boards) as well as HVRP (a small national competition).

Non SHP MUD funds (typically block granted through counties), HUD SHP (a supernova allocated by formula share through consolidated plans) VHA homeless veteran grant and per diem programs, and other VA HCMI contracts (national, but administered through local VAMC's, and potentially subject to VERA capitation modeling ).

National Service Corporation funds (largely block granted through state commissions and limited capped national competitions), and as yet, a largely mystifying process for accessing HHS funds provide for this action.

I hope this is not the case today.

Additionally, I formally request an immediate hearing on this matter as provided by my agreement of services with US Veterans that allow for grievance procedures as provided by Federal and State laws concerning receipt of monies for the homeless.

These Directors may include:
Dwight Radcliff, Site Director
Stephen Peck, Site Director
Shana Cambell, Program Director
Greg McCormack, Program Director
Jeff Coleman, Program Director
Stephani Hardy, Executive Director

Additionally would you confirm the following to be the addresses of parties who may have an interest in this matter as follows:

COL. JOSEPH SMITH
PRESIDENT
1816 S. FIGUEROA STREET
LOS ANGELES, CA 90015

ALAN R. JACKSON
TREASURER
419 WES; 173RD STREET
LAWNDALE F CA 90260

MAURICE S. KAME
SECRETARY
8154 SOUTH DALTON AVE
LOS ANGELES CA 90047

DAVID W FARRAR
DIRECTOR
515 S. FLOWER ST STE 3500
LOS ANGELES. CA 90071-2201

With business addresses of :
Robert Jordan Donald Clark Thomas R. Cantwell Jr.

As displacement will dramatically undercut any and all opportunities to contact these people after my involuntary relocation without notice, please provide for them at the close of business today.

Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
Sincerely,
Gordon Rowe 301 CU

Now that’s a letter L.A. Vets shouldn’t ignore.

Most vets, when they get booted out of here like an unwanted alley cat out the back door of a fish processing plant, most vets do one of two things, I’ve noticed. They either slouch towards Bethlehem as they drag what possessions they can carry on their back out to the bus stop or they leave waving their fist, screaming, “You can’t do this to me. I’m a vet!

I always thought THAT enunciation to be particularly humourous as it is exactly opposite of the truth. The truth is that they can do things to veterans that they wouldn’t DARE do to civilians; like killing them for instance, experimenting on them with untested vaccinations, dousing them with defoliant chemicals, slipping LSD into their coffee, dropping nukes on them to see if their hair falls out, you know the litany.

I need Gordon. I need him here in my little Homeless Vets Against Dubious Homeless Vets Shelters organization. I’d better get up off my tush and do something about this.
